Having spent most of my career working in the UK, my experience of international destinations has broadened considerably having gained an in-depth understanding of the vision, realisation and resulting property market that has emerged in Dubai. Working closely with our Dubai partner, Ravi Mahtani (over 20 years’ experience) our aim is to guide our clients to the type of location and property that best suits their needs, whether it be investment, holiday home or serviced apartment. In my spare time I love riding horses, eventing, art, photography, running, swimming, playing the violin, guitar and piano and I have a lovely dog called Charlie.
I became fascinated by luxury real estate in the 1970’s working in London . It is an interest that has never left me.
After working for several years for Chestertons I became the partner of a thirty-six-office brokerage. When this firm was later sold to a large company in 1988 I was asked to set up a luxury homes division, based in London, for the new UK-wide 580 office network.
This would have been the perfect job had not an even-more-perfect job come along a few years later. I was chosen from thousands of real estate and publishing professionals to head Country Life magazine’s property advertising team. Country Life is the advertising ‘bible’ for country houses in the UK. The very best, the most historic, and the most beautiful are advertised in the magazine’s prestigious property pages. It is the very essence of country house Britain and has been for over one hundred years.
Working at Country Life was a great experience and I learnt so much more about the marketing side of luxury property. But by the mid-nineties it was time to embark on the most exciting and rewarding stage of my career to date.
In 1995 I founded Mayfair Office, a London office for out-of-London estate agents. Independent estate agents in the UK luxury sector often prefer specialist support for their national marketing, advertising and PR. London representation also heavily influences listings. The luxury real estate market is as competitive in the UK as it is in the US. Sellers are looking for a broker with an edge, and the right London and international connections help give them that edge.
It was the need for that competitive advantage across the international real estate community that led to the formation of Mayfair International Realty in 2004. Now I help and advise real estate professionals on international property marketing across the globe. It is a far cry from the post room.
